MSP430F5326: Maximum Junction Temperature (vs Recommended)

Part Number: MSP430F5326

The datasheet for this part does not specify the absolute maximum operating temperature, only the maximum storage temperature (in table 8.1) and the recommended (rather than absolute) operating junction temperature. Could a FAE please advise on whether it might be possible to operate this at higher temp above 85C?

Hi Kristopher,

While it might be possible to operate the device at higher temperatures, we can only guarantee our devices when operated within our specification limits - which is 85C in free air for this device.

I am not TI, so I can say this. You reach a hard limit at 150 C because of the epoxy, so stay well below that. And, the rule of thumb is you cut the MTTF in half for every 10 C increase.

The issue is that the absolute specification limits aren't given for operating temp, only storage. 85C is recommended. If 85 is the true, absolute specification then the datasheet should be updated to properly reflect that.
