MSP430F413: MSP430F413IPM crystal load

Dear Team

Good day!

Our customer use the MSP430F413 in their  water meter equivalent .

MSP430F413 erratasheet XOSC7 has a problem during low temperature operation in LF mode

There is a message to use a load cap.

In the previous mass production version, the internal cap was set to 18pF and used.

Until now, it has been used without any problems, but MCU has been killed since last year.

He want to inquiries about external load caps and check the clock voltage levels of XIN and XOUT.

I had provide the document to him which link below 

Do you have more suggestions ? or provide the answer the customer wants directly ?

    Hi, Leon, 

    This app note slaa322 is good document for all the considerations when designing MSP430 with external crystals, including how to calculate the load capacitors, safety factors and troubleshooting tips. I think it is a good start for the customer.

    Thanks for your last reply 

    The customer set the internal capacitance to 18pF,and test the wave here 

    Please check that there is no problem with the XIN input level in the picture. (Is the internal Cap setting satisfied with the specifications?)


    Also, please check the minimum value of the crystal input voltage level of the MSP430.is it same to other GPIO input H/L level range ?
