MSP430F413: MSP430F413 XIN, XOUT waveforms

Part Number: MSP430F413

Dear Team

Good day!

Our customer need more help with E2E link below

https://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/msp430/f/166/t/979864

They want us to check the Xin and Xout waveform  is correct and confirm the minimum value of the crystal input voltage level of the MSP430.

The waveform is link below , he internal capacitance is set to 18pF and used,

  • Sorry I couldn't see the original post (https://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/msp430/f/166/t/979864) opened again. Next time, if you want to reopen it, you can reply in the thread and the it will be reopened. Now I can reply your questions here.

    1. The Vpeak-peak is about 200mV. It seems a little small. Normally it will be better if the Vpeak-peak is about 300mV.

    2. The MSP430F413 Device Erratasheet (Rev. F) bug XOSC7 requests to disable the internal crystal load capacitance (XCAPxPF = 00) and use external load capacitors on XIN & XOUT as recommended by the crystal manufacturer. I am not sure why customer to use the internal crystal load capacitance. The bug XOSC7 will introduce low temperature issue, and in addition, the frequency might be incorrect if the 18pF doesn't match the crystal specification. You can see the frequency of the waveform is 32.9kHz which is a little different from the 32.768kHz. So it is better to ask your customer to use external load capacitors which value can be calculated based on the guide in slaa322

    Thanks,

    Lixin
