MSP430FR5964: Weighing options for Buffered ADC and increasing memory size

Part Number: MSP430FR5964
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430FR2422

Hi -

When I first posted a question on a buffered ADC solution,TI recommended I look at MSP430FR2422.  This part looked very appealing given it's FRAM ability to buffer ADC data.

As I familiarized myself with this part, I see that there are other options with more FRAM.

My main objectives:

  • 8-10 ADC channels
  • 200 kS/s minimum
  • SPI and I2C digital outputs
  • Buffering a minimum of 7000 samples to be uploaded for post-processing.  The more samples the better as this gives me more options for what I can capture.

The MSP430FR2422 checked most of my boxes.  But, looking at other options, I see parts with up to 256 kB of FRAM.  For example, I see the MSP430FR5964 has 256 kB of FRAM and a 12-bit ADC. But, as these parts go up in FRAM size, they go up with many other features that I probably don't need.

My goal is to find the smallest package available with the most FRAM/SRAM.

Does the MSP430FR5964 also fit into my criteria and is there any reason wouldn't work along the same lines as the MSP430FR2422?  Are there other parts that TI would recommend instead?

Thanks,

Tom
