MSP430FR5964: Guide to choosing the best clocking configuration

Part Number: MSP430FR5964

Hello -

For the MSP430FR5964, I'm looking for a basic guide on how to choose the best components outside of the microcontroller to set up my clocks.

I'm looking for a minimalistic approach for external components.

Other considerations:

  • Basic use case of buffering ADC values at ~200 kS/s or higher.
  • No real need for a Real-Time clock if it requires the low frequency crystal.
  • Flexible on operation frequency as long as ADC can buffer into large amounts of FRAM.
  • The microcontroller is interfacing via I2C and/or SPI to other devices in my system.  I'd like the speed to be fairly robust, but I'm not overly trying to push the limits.

It seems to me that the DCO may be the simplest choice because if I'm reading it correctly, there are no outside components required to set up the clock tree.

But, I'm afraid there are far too many options and MSP430 family members for the clocking options to be clear to me.

Could you point me to the best quick-start clocking guide?

Thanks in advance,
Tom
