MSP430FR6043: MSP430FR6043EVM PPG

Part Number: MSP430FR6043
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430FR6047, MSP430FR5043

Hello,

We are currently developing a water meter which is based on the MSP430FR6047 and we are assessing initial data from prototype meters under full range flow conditions.

We are seeing a number of slips which we believe we can filter out at the application level.

However, based on our gas meter development experience (MSP430FR5043) we know that chirp excitation provides much better pulse compression/ less slips in a a noisy environment.

We have ordered some MSP430FR6043EVM to evaluate the chirp in regards to better performance but I wanted to check in advance that the 6043 examples with build options for chirp (multitone) is fully implemented or do we have some work to do to set this up in practice?

We do not plan any external gain stage as you would expect with a gas solution.

Is there a reason why we would elect to use tone over chirp in the 6043 case?

Thank you in advance for your support.

kind regards,

Geoff Brown

  • Hi Geoff,

I have reached out to our USS team for assistance with your questions.  One of our experts should respond on Monday.

  • Hi Geoff,

It should be possible to adjust the configuration parameters for your water meter to minimize the cycle slips you are seeing. In practice, we haven't seen customer going to chirp based methods because the additional computational complexity(and power consumption) isn't needed for water.  Can you post a snapshot of your ADC capture under the flow conditions in which you are seeing cycle slips along with your Advanced Configuration tab from the GUI?
