MSP430F47173 ADC16 reference temp drift [20-jun-11] [repost 23-jun-11 no response] [repost 27 June no response] [repost 6th July no response]

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F47173

Hi,

I have a customer with a requirement to compensate for the temperature drift of the ADC16 Vref in MSP430F47173. He plans to use the on-chip temperature sensor and an approximate drift curve to increase his ADC16 overall accuracy.

Q1: Is there an internal app note for this?

Q2: Are the ADC16 Vref temperature dependence curves available as supplemental, qualification or non-datasheet information?

Q3: Is the reference temperature dependence roughly linear, or complex?

thanks

  • Andrew,

    1. There is no application note that describes the compensation procedure for the reference drift for the SD16_A on these devices. It is indeed possible to apply the compensation using the internal temp sensor. However, it is important to note that the same reference is used to do the temp measurement also.

    2. Is this application an energy meter application? If yes, how do you manage to take care of temperature effects of other components, like the current sensors used on the board?

    3. The reference on this device is a very good one and its drift is quite small with temperature. it is only 18ppm/Deg C. Are you sure you want to further compensate this?

    4. There are no curves available as of today characterizing the reference variation and I will find out if we can get them.

    Thanks

    Best regards

    Kripa
