Why i can't use MSP-FET430PIF for MSP430F673x series MCU

This interface can be used only with MSP430 devices that have dedicated JTAG pins such as
MSP430F13x, MSP430F14x, MSP430F15x, MSP430F16x, MSP430F4xx and MSP430FE4xx
(Electricity Meter) derivates. For use with MSP430 devices with shared JTAG pins the isolated
FET interface must be modified as described in the circuit description section.

  • The FET requires a firmware update if it shall support a new MSP. It needs to 'know' the MSP (it's details such as the itnernal flash controller, default timings etc.) If the FET firmware does not know an MSP, it cannot program it.

There is no updated firmware for the MSP-FET430PIF for quite a while. One of the reasons is that the JTAG command format has been changed to support 20 bit addressing on 5x/6x family (and part of 3x family). So a major rewrite of the PIF firmwar ewould have been necessary, far beyond simple table updates.
Since the PIF is an outdated, discontinued product, nobody bothered to write an updated firmware.

Well, I have a PIF here, and it still works finr for the 1611 and 1232 (one of them having shared, one having dedicated JTAG pins). But when I started on the 5438, I had to switch to the UIF.
