MSP430F1491 ROM BSL is not v1.10

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F1491

We have been loading our MSP430 application software onto MSP430F1491 processors using the loadable BS_150S_14x BSL driven from a PC application. Recently the PC application reported a sync failure (no 0x90 reply to a 0x80 sync command) immediately after a "Load PC" command was successfully sent to the ROM BSL (to jump to the RAM BSL). When we investigated it appears that the ROM BSL was v1.60 or, in some cases v1.61. As the RAM BSL uses code in the ROM BSL clearly the RAM BSL's code was jumping to some place in the v1.60/v1.61 code that was completely irrelevant. Having found the problem the fix was simple - as the v1.60/1.61 ROM BSL is not faulty we need load no RAM BSL so all we have to do now is sense which BSL is present in ROM which is easy.

I have looked at the TI document slau265f.pdf which was revised 10th March 2010. It clearly states that the ROM BSL for the MSP430F1491 is v1.10 and does not mention the v1.60 or v1.61 as being applicable to this model MSP430. I can find no later document describing the applicability of ROM BSLs.

Does anyone know what is going on here??
