ez430 and -F5132 parts

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-EXP430F5529LP, MSP-EXP430FR6989, MSP-FET

Since April, I've been using the ez430 tool to load and debug several -F5131 and -F5172 device, but it quit working last week and won't recover, in either CCSv4 or CCSv5

eZ430-F2013 Dev Tool User guide (SLAU176D, rev'd June 2010) FAQ on page 7 doesn't list 5xxx parts (so why did it work for 4 months ?) but that doc's date is older than the initial release date for the -F5131 family (SLAS619P, initially August 2010)

Any thoughts out there?

Doug

  • Hi Doug,

The eZ430-F2013 doesn't support MSP430F5xx devices, as shown in the table below from the MSP Debuggers User's Guide on page 4. Because of this, we can't guarantee proper operation, even though it may have worked at one time.

For debugging, I'd recommend using the MSP-FET (which supports all programmable MSP430 devices), but another option would be to use the eZ-FET Lite (found on the MSP-EXP430F5529LP) or eZ-FET (found on the MSP-EXP430FR6989) on-board emulators. These are successors to the eZ430 emulator. For more information about them, take a look at Section 5.8 in the MSP Debuggers User's Guide. Although these are on-board the LaunchPads, they can be used with off-board devices (see the specific LaunchPad's User's Guide instructions on how to do this).

  • Hi James,

thanks for the update and pointer to the doc - my library keeps growing.  Guess I was just lucky with the ez430's for a while.

My next try will be the MSP-FET430UIF that I've had for several years but not needed 'til now, working mostly with -F2274's.

    Doug
