CCS/MSP432P401R: Out of Box Experience GUI of MSP432p401r not working

Part Number: MSP432P401R

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

I try to run Demo "Out of Box Experience GUI" of MSP432p401r through CCS V7, I do not see GUI toggle led bar after connecting (click connecting), someone can give a help on this?

Thank,

Feng

  • Feng,

Are you seeing the COM port listing and a button labelled "Open" as shown below?

If not, are the jumpers labelled "RXD" and "TXD" present on header J101 on your board? These provide the connection
for the user UART and are necessary for the GUI to function.

    Regards,

      Bob Landers

  • Hi Bob,

No, no "COM port" and "OPEN" button are seen. Only one button is "Connect" button, after click "connect", it is dead, it seems try to connect to TI cloud, not sure why need do tis?

All the jumper on header J101 are presented.

    Thanks,

    Feng

  • If you have already installed the SimpleLink SDK, you can use the offline version of the GUI, which is located at:
    C:\ti\simplelink_msp432_sdk_1_30_00_40\tools\OutOfBox_MSP432P401R_GUI\windows

    The runtime is called "OutOfBox_MSP432P401R_GUI.exe"

    -Bob
  • I do not see any file called "MSP432p401RGUI.exe" , I only see three files "credit.html", "nw.pak" and "readme"

  • I should have asked this question first- Are you using the latest (Red) LaunchPad, or the older (Black) MSP432P401 one?  If you're using the Black LP, then you need to upgrade to the Red one, since there are a number of differences between the preproduction silicon on the Black LaunchPad and the production silicon used on Red LaunchPad.

If that's not the issue, then read on:

Not sure why you're not seeing that, but you can download the entire OutOfBox .zip file from Resource Explorer

by clicking the Download icon on the far right.  Try running the GUI locally rather than through CCS and see if that functions correctly.

    (It works for me).

    -Bob

    Resource Explorer Project Download

  • we use latest launch board (red), bought a few weeks ago.

  • Have you been able to download the offline version of the GUI, as mentioned in the previous post? Does this solve your problem?
    -Bob
  • Hello,
I have the same problem with the MSP432 launchpad (red version)

The Out of the Box demo does not launch from neither Chrome or Firefox (both meet your browser requirements).
Both browsers say that an obsolete TI Cloud Agent was found after clicking on the "connect" button. I have version 2.5 enabled, but I can't find any newer version. The "download" button to get an offline version of the GUI does not work either -- no action after clicking on this button.

I don't have any .Exe file on the SDK folder.

Was this functionality removed recently ?

    Regards,
    mathieu
  • That function should still be there. I was again able to get the GUI and out-of-box demo going on my machine.
    I have:
    Google Chrome v60.0.3112.113
    GUI & MSP432 code: from SimpleLink MSP432P4 SDK- v1.50.0.12
The above program was imported, compiled, and run from CCS cloud
Cloud Agent: TI CloudAgent Bridge 2.5
(Access this from the "settings" menu (usually on the far right) of Chrome,
    Click "More Tools" -> Extensions)

    I would suggest
    1. Deleting the current TICloud Agent Bridge from Chrome
    2. exiting Chrome (all instances)
    3. Reopen Chrome and go to dev.ti.com & log in
    4. Open CCS Cloud and import the out-of-box, compile, run
    5. From another Chrome tab, go to dev.ti.com and open the out-of-box-GUI
    - at this point, it should ask to reinstall the Cloud agent
    6. Connect to the running LaunchPad via the serial port

Let me know how this works.

    Regards,
    Bob

  • Hello Bob,

I did what you suggested but I still have the same problem.

I have no problem to compile the out of box demo from CCS Cloud and flash the Launchpad board.

However, the GUI will not launch - even after deleting, reinstalling and restarting computer. Please see the  screenshot for additional details.

The launchpad is properly connected to the computer, its two serial communication ports are available in the peripheral manager and I have TI Cloud Agent Bridge v2.5 installed.

Do you have any other idea ?

    Regards,

    Mathieu

  • hello,

it seems that the installer for simplelink-msp432-sdk version 1.50.00.12 fails to install the windows gui exe in the tools directory for the outofbox example. the windows installer for version 1.30.00.40 however contains this file. so maybe this can be fixed in future releases?
