MSP-GANG: Warranty for MSP Gang programmer

Part Number: MSP-GANG

Hi,

May I know is there any warranty for this MSP Gang programmer? I am facing some issue and suspecting the programmer is not working.

Best regards,

KH

  • Hi KH,

There should be a sheet included in the MSP-GANG box with the tool that would detail any legal notices/disclaimers/warranty that may or may not exist for the tool (I do not know and you should consult the sheet for this information).

However, can you provide information about what is not working? I am hoping that we can help you through whatever issue you may be having. We will usually need to know a few things to diagnose an issue with using the MSP-GANG:
    1. What you are trying to do vs. what behavior you are seeing? Are any error messages reported?
    2. What firmware version is used, and what MSP-GANG hardware is used (you can get this by going to About > About in the GUI). I would generally recommend to use the latest version of the MSP-GANG software available on the web: www.ti.com/.../msp-gang. Right now the latest version is 1.2.8.0.
    3. Additionally, you can have the GUI run a self-test on the MSP-GANG by using the GUI and going to Tools > Self Test. Attach results file if you see any failures.
    4. Provide information about the JTAG/SBW connections between the MSP-GANG and your device, and any passives or other components on the JTAG/SBW lines on your device.
    5. Your MSP-GANG GUI settings

  • Hi Katie,

Thanks for your prompt reply. The Error i saw from the programmer is Err 23. What does that mean? I will run a self test and update you asap.

    Best regards,

    KH

  • Hi KH,

Seeing the MSP-GANG user's guide www.ti.com/.../slau358 section 2.3 Status messages, you can find a list of error numbers and what error message corresponds to them. Seeing p. 48 you can see error #23 is "MCU device initialization failed". This error means that the GANG was unable to connect to the device. This can typically happen if something is not quite right with the MSP-GANG settings or with the MSP-GANG connection to the target device.

The following information would help us to narrow down the issue:
    1. Can you show a schematic snippet showing the JTAG or SBW connections, or list the connections? Are there any other devices or passive components on any of the JTAG or SBW lines? The connections need to exactly match one of the figures in the MSP430 Hardware Tools User's Guide chapter 2 www.ti.com/.../slau278
    2. Can you show a screenshot showing your MSP-GANG GUI settings?
    3. Can you provide information on how your MSP430 board is powered? Is it powered separately from like a battery or power supply, or is it powered from the MSP-GANG itself for programming? This will impact what connection should be made.
    4. Do you have long cables connecting the device/board to the MSP-GANG, or are you using the provided cables?

    Regards,
    Katie
  • Hi KH,

Any update regarding the points above? Are you still encountering the issue?

    Regards,
    Katie
  • Dear Katie,

Most likely is the hardware failure. Thanks for the help!

    Best regards,
    KH
