TIDM-THREEPHASEMETER-F6779: Programming and Communication

Part Number: TIDM-THREEPHASEMETER-F6779
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EVM430-F6779, MSP-FET, MSP-EXP430F5529LP, MSP-ISO

I'm reviewing some energy meters to order soon, to our application is important to read measurements by communication and have the possibility to modify the source code depending of the application.

Straight to order the meter and thinking in to accomplish the previous needs:

1. What is the part number that I need to order to read the meter measurements via Wi-Fi?

2. What is the part number that I need to order to modify the programming via serial/JTAG?

Thank you.

  • Hello,

The TIDM-THREEPHASEMETER-F6779 TI Design is based on the EVM430-F6779 board. To get started, I would recommend using our new Energy Measurement Design Center (EMDC) and Software Library. Using the EVM430-F6779 and one of the EMDC example projects, you can start measuring voltage, current, power, energy, etc. and viewing results in less than 5 minutes! The EMDC enables the Sigma Delta ADCs on the MSP430 to be easily configured according to your application requirements rather than spending a lot of time developing the metrology code yourself or modifying the legacy IAR-based Energy Library code. We want users to be able to focus more on the application development (such as transmitting the results over Wi-Fi) rather than spending time on the metrology code. Did I mention that the EMDC will generate CCS source code too? Then, you can easily modify the application code if necessary.

    1. For Wi-Fi connectivity, the EVM430-F6779 does feature headers that allow wireless connectivity, but unfortunately we don't sell a Wi-Fi version of that board, only Zigbee. Take a look at the following resources. Perhaps you could use a SimpleLink™ Wi-Fi® CC3220SF Wireless Microcontroller LaunchPad™ Development Kit with the EVM430-F6779.

We do sell a ZigBee version of this plug-in board, called the CC2530 Evaluation Module Kit.

    2. To program the EVM430-F6779, you'll want to order the MSP-FET.

Also, if you'll be using EMDC, you'll want to order the MSP-ISO (isolation board) and the MSP-EXP430F5529LP (used as HID Bridge board).

    Hope this helps!

    Regards,
