MSP430_uif

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH, MSP430G2001, MSP-FET, MSP430-FLASHER

Today we were using the UNIFlash to program a MSP430G2001.  Everything looked fine and the Uniflash software recognized the MSP430-UIF emulation tool.  Then, it asked to upgrade the tool.  Once I clicked "upgrade"...the tool cannot be used at all by Uniflash or other software.  I re-installed UniFlash and it still did not work.  I cannot even re-program the devices.

Please help

  • Hello Russell,

Thanks for your post. First, the MSP-FET430UIF is not recommended for new designs (NRND). Thus, the support for this tool will be limited moving forward. I would strongly recommend that you upgrade to the latest MSP-FET debugger.

To address your issue, I would recommend trying the following options to recover your MSP-FET430UIF debugger.

    • Follow Katie's advice in the following thread and install the Elprotronic software, which lets you downgrade and upgrade the debugger's firmware.

    • Try installing the MSP430-FLASHER (Command Line Programmer) to see if you can recover the device or trigger the upgrade again. UniFlash is preferred but for the recovery effort, try the MSP430-FLASHER.
    • If you haven't already, try using the latest UniFlash version, v4.3 (not sure if you've been using the older v3 version).

  • I have tried re-installing Uniflash using the down rev... etc. The software works; but it cannot communicate with the debugger. Also I was mistaken about the debugger...I am using the latest tool. MSP-430FET...a black box; not the older version grey box. It sounds silly, but yeah, TI software upgraded them..then did not recognize them. I cannot be the only one with this issue.
  • There's a sticky post on our main forum page related to MSP-FET issues with specific serial numbers. Check it out below. If you're using outdated IAR or CCS versions, please consider updating them.
