Hello!

We are excited to announce a new software update for the MSP-GANG device! Thanks to this new update, programming times have dropped by a substantial amount (up to 32.1% on certain devices)!

For those of you who may not be familiar with MSP-GANG programmers, here is some background.

What is MSP-GANG?

  • MSP-GANG is a MSP430/MSP432 device programmer that can program up to eight identical MSP430/MSP432 Flash or FRAM devices at the same time via JTAG , Spy-Bi-Wire or BSL interface.
  • The MSP-GANG connects to a host PC using a standard RS-232 or USB connection and provides flexible programming options that allow the user to fully customize the process.
  • It comes with a DLL (dynamic link library) which enables the customer to define their specific programing flows and an intuitive GUI to make programing easy.
  • Several programming modes include:
    • Interactive Mode: Programming while connected to PC using the MSP-GANG Programmer GUI.
    • Program from Image: An image can be stored on the MSP-GANG, which contains configuration options and code files. This allows users to program MSP devices without being connected to a PC (standalone mode).
    • Programming from Script: Enables developers to automate more complicated programming procedures.

How Does Using FRAM Over Flash Reduce Programming Time?

Using FRAM has 2 benefits over Flash:

  • FRAM does not have to be blank before programing. This mean you can skip BLANK check and save time:
    • Connect Target > ERASE FRAM > BLANK check > Write Application Code > Verify
    • You can quick write to FRAM. This means you can directly write from JTAG to FRAM instead of copying the data to RAM first.
      • Save the time required to load application program (RAM loader) and data into RAM of target device.
