MSP-EXP430F5529LP: MSP-EXP430F5529LP

Part Number: MSP-EXP430F5529LP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3200, CC3200AUDBOOST, TLV320AIC3254, CC3200-LAUNCHXL

Hello,

I am using MSP-EXP430F5529LP and CC3200AUDBOOT, but when I connected both together then Download and Debug by IAR, a error message occur

Fatal error: Could not find device (or device not supported)
Session aborted!

How do I use MSP-EXP430F5529LP and CC3200AUDBOOT together?

Regards,

Hien

  • Hello Hien,

    CC3200AUDBOOT, what is this?
  • Hien,

I have an idea, as I remember CC3200 chip takes something like 800 mA during calibration.
do not supply power to your BP from a LP, use separate power supplier for CC3200...
Use 1 Amp rated or better.
    Check your CC3200... maunal.
    Some jumpers may need reconfiguration!
  • Hi Tomasz,
The CC3200AUDBOOST is SimpleLink Wi-Fi CC3200 Audio BoosterPack board at link www.ti.com/.../cc3200audboost

    Regards,
    Hien
  • Did you followed my instructions, ideas?
  • Hi Tomasz,
I don't know how do use separate power supplier for CC3200AUDBOOST? Could you please give me an advice?

    Regards,
    Hien
  • You need to carefully read your manual.
Each LP and almost every BP have its own micro USBs for a power supply.
If you connect two separate power supplies something bad could happen when the jumpers are improperly set.

  • Hi Tomasz,
I don't find any information about using separate power supplier for CC3200AUDBOOST, could you help me check the CC3200AUDBOOST and MSP-EXP430F5529LP can work together? I am not expert about hardware.

    Regards,
    Hien
  • Hi Tomasz,

I have tried to connect C3200AUDBOOST with a separate power supplier, but when I connect GND pin on CC3200AUDBOOST and MSP-EXP430F5529LP together, the error

Fatal error: Could not find device (or device not supported)
    Session aborted!

still occurs when I Download and Debug by IAR.

If I don't connect GND on CC3200AUDBOOST and MSP-EXP430F5529LP, the Download and Debug is success.

Could you please help me to check this issue?

    Regards,
    Hien
  • I am not a hardware guy, too.

You: but when I connect GND pin on CC3200AUDBOOST and MSP-EXP430F5529LP together, the error.
Do you connect GNDs or other pins too?
Of course you connect other pins, too.
If you connect only GNDs, nothing would happen.

Both LP and BP have their own micro USB sockets.
Check BP manual what to do to use an external power supply instead of sourcing from LP.
  • The CC3200AUDBOOST lines up with the MSP-EXP430F5529LP with respect to power and ground - see figure 2-1 on page 5 here

and this boosterpack does not have CC3200 onboard

and line up with page 26 here

are you 100% sure you are plugging in correctly?

  • Hello Josh,

my goal was to quickly help.
First search for CC3200AUDBOOT at google pointed to this thread.
    I cannot read everything.
I have assumed that CC3200AUDBOOT has cc3200 on board.
Thanks to your information that this this boosterpack does not have CC3200 onboard
I would say that the power supply is not an issue.
    My fault.

    Dear Hien,

    any update?
  • Hi Tomasz,

I think error occurs because Reset pin on P2 Jumper (P2.5) on CC3200AUDBOOST is connected to SBWTDIO (J2.5) on MSP-EXP430F5529LP board, the SBWTDIO pin is used for EZFET debug, so I can't "Download and Debug" when connect CC3200AUDBOOST and MSP-EXP430F5529LP. I will use other RESET pin instead of it.

    Regards,

    Hien

  • Hi Hien,

regarding CC3200AUDBOOST, P2 is not a jumper, it is a pin header and it is in right place according to the LP pin headers standard.
I have no idea how to find and use other RESET pin instead of that one.

Your BoosterPack name suggest that it was designed to work with CC32000-LAUNCHXL.
Quick look at pin headers tell me that CC3200AUDBOOST and MSP-EXP430F5529LP are "electrically" compatible.
I do not see CC3200AUDBOOST on the MSP-EXP430F5529LP BoosterPack compatibility list.
Probably both BP and LP were not tested together.
If RESET on CC3200AUDBOOST is somehow used o sort of timing issues may happen when a dubug session starts.

Could you check CC3200AUDBOOST schematics and tell me how RESET pin is used on this BP?

    Do you have CC32000-LAUNCHXL?
  • Hello Josh,

could you explain me why TI Thinks Resolved is set on?
I am asking because I think that the actual status is even not the and of the begin.
  • Hi Tomasz,
Yes, you are right, P2 is a header.

The RESET pin is used to reset TLV320AIC3254 chip on CC3200AUDBOOST, the RESET pin is active LOW and it is default is HIGH. When connect CC3200AUDBOOST with MSP-EXP430F5529LP, the RESET pin of CC3200AUDBOOST is connected with SBWTDIO pin using for EZFET debugger, so I don't "Download and Debug". This issue is solved when I use other pin instead of SBWTDIO to connect with the RESET pin on CC3200AUDBOOST.

I have CC3200-LAUNCHXL and it works ok with CC3200AUDBOOST. I am trying CC3200AUDBOOST with MSP-EXP430F5529LP.

    Regards,
    Hien
  • Hi Tomasz,

In the CC3200AUDBOOST schematics, RESET pin is connected with MASTER_REST, so it is connected to SBWTDIO pin on MSP-EXP430F5529LP.

If on CC3200AUDBOOST, RESET pin is connected with CODEC_RESET, i thinks the issue is resolved.

    Regards,

    Hien

  • Hi Hien,
    please confirm that it works.
  • Hi Tomasz,
Thanks for your support! It works.

    Regards,
    Hien
