Sir;

I am using MSP430FR6989 development board and I need to flash a source code to MSP430FR4133 chip. But MSP430 Flasher is not responding with its any of the options.

Do I need any extra hardware for flashing?

Can I flash my code with MSP430FR6989 development board?

and why MSP430 Flasher is not responding?

any help is greatly appreciated

    What MSP430FR6989 board are you using? I assume you are using spy bi wire for programming, correct? Do you have your own MSP430FR4133 board? If so, do you have the required resistor and cap on RST line?

    I am using MSP430FR6989 LaunchPad and I don't have  MSP430FR4133 board.But  I am using a custom board with  MSP430FR4133 chip on it  and the reset line of the board have required resistor and capacitors . The following pins of LaunchPad are used to debugg the custom board with the help of Code Composer Studio .

    SBWTDIO

    SBWTCK

    5V

    GND

    But I have to flash the source code to the custom board with out using CCStudio.

    Pins look correct, but 5V is a problem. The maximum supply voltage on MSP430 is typically 3.6V. Voltage above this is outside the specification and could damage the part.

    Please reduce the voltage, although I cannot say if damage is already done by applying 5V. Also, can you try flashing with Uniflash or Elprotronic Flash programmer?
  • Eddie, I'm curious why you suggested he try other programmers.  Presumably he is using the MSP-EXP430FR6989 LaunchPad Development Kit, and it seems it should be possible to flash firmware via in-circuit SBW using that Launchpad and the command line  MS430 Flasher, assuming the connections are right.  Is that correct?

    One thing to check:  I think this chip has a JTAG protection lock somewhere (maybe 0xFF80) that has to be FFFF or 0000 to be unlocked.

    I agree that the MSP Flasher should be able to successfully program the device. I just wanted to give another option in case something is incorrect with the MSP Flasher set up.

    Good point about checking the JTAG protection lock.

    We have voltage regulator on our custom board which give 3V output.So connecting to 5V is not a problem. Also the problem is fixed and  now we are able to flash the code as we expected .
