MSP-FET: Multiple MSP-FETs.. Would like to select/use by "Serial Number" as opposed to simply COM Port Number..

Part Number: MSP-FET
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430-FLASHER, MSP-GANG

Hi Team '430,

My Customer reports..

"I'm using a labview program that locates/finds an MSP-FET based on location of the COM port. We have four MSP-FETs connected, and it's difficult to determine which MSP-FET is which. Windows can/will switch the COM ports for the programmers.  I'd like to find the COM Port for each MSP-FET based on MSP-FET serial number.

I'd like to use the MSP Flasher application to find the information of the MSP-FETs.  Issue: I cannot find a command to identify the serial number of each MSP-FET connected. I need a command that is individual to each programmer so I can distinguish which MSP-FET is which."

Do we have a way to do this?

Thanks, Merril

  • Hey Merril,

Unfortunantly, It doesn't seem to be possible. It doesn't seem that we program in a unique ID or Serial into the device during our programming/test procedure. In the MSP430-Flasher User's guide, section 2, there is a note stating when using multiple eZ430s to use the HID and COM port which it sounds like the customer is already doing. Issue here is the HID is the same for all MSP-FETs and the COM port could change.

The only other option I can think of us for them to use an MSP-GANG and dll like we've been discussing in another thread.

    Thanks,
    JD
  • I don't remember at the the time when I was playing with MSP Debug stack source, and I don't have MSP-FET, but anyone can check CDC device descriptor, if product serial number  there is the same for all devices. If it is unique, than any device can be selected by CDC descriptor without problems.
