MSP430F5500: Hight speed MMC/USB bridge

Dear e2e Support,

In order to design a USB/MMC bridge, we wanted to use the app note Interfacing MSP430™ MCUs With MMC or SD Flash Memory Cards (Rev. C), related to this post.

As my customer need to use a high speed MMC (in the range of 8Mbps), could you confirm if it's achievable?

If not, do you see any other solution we might have?

Regards,

  • Hello,

By looking at the datasheet of the MSP430F5500, it appears to be that the characterized SPI Master Mode maximum clock frequency is MCLK (the system frequency). By observing the SPI maximum frequency topics of discussion in these posts,

    e2e.ti.com/.../52360
    e2e.ti.com/.../702733

it appears that some of the newer MSP430 devices have been spec'ed for a SPI CLK frequency below the maximum system frequency, but that doesn't seem to be the case for the F5500. In the case of your device, the maximum possible clock frequency is well above the 8MHz SPI clock speed that your customer requires so I don't think there will be any issues being able to achieve the 8Mbps SPI communication speed.

    Best regards,

    Matt
