MSP-EXP430FR5739: Application UART serial com doesn't work in Windows 10 EDUCATION

Hi there,

I've programmed an MSP-EXP430FR5739 launchpad with a simple application to send data by the serial UART. I connected the launchpad to a pc using the USB cable and I used the terminal included in CCS 9 to read this data using a serial virtual com.

When I plug the launchpad in a PC with Windows 10 HOME, it works. I can read the data sent by the microcontroller.

When I plug the launchpad in a PC with Windows 10 EDUCATION, it doesn't work, that is, nothing is received.

I tried with several PCs, launchpads and cables, and also with putty and Hercules terminal, and the behaviour is always the same: Windows 10 HOME works, Windows 10 EDUCATION doesn't work

Even I've checked with two PCs with Windows 10 EDUCATION, connecting them using two USB-Serial adapter and I can send and receive data to/from each PC using the terminal included in CCS 9.

Is there a problem with the MSP430 Application UART driver in Windows 10 EDUCATION?

Hi Toni,

I'm not aware of this issue.

You have the Experimenter board plugged into a USB 2.0 (not USB 3.0) port and are not using a data hub correct?

Hi Chris,

you are right: the launchpad is directly plugged into a 2.0 PC port.

I forget to say that I can work with CCS 9 and the launchpad, that is, download, run and debug programs. This is the reason because I'm pointing to the MSP430 Application UART driver.

So everything works on both Windows 10 HOME and Windows 10 EDUCATION besides UART?

Let me reach out to some internal TI experts on this and see if we can figure out this issue.

I'm still discussing with the internal TI experts about this issue, please allow for some time. We are not aware of this problem you are experiencing, but we will see if we can replicate the issue.

Hi Chris.

Yes, it still doesn't work. But I have new information.

I tried in a Windows 10 Enterprise and the result is the same: no communication.

However, in the same computer I tried a CC3220SF-LAUNCHXL and I can communicate with CCS 9 terminal using the XDS110 Application UART virtual com.

This focus the problem in the MSP430 Application UART driver, I guess.
