Sir,
We were using 71M6533-IGT with ADM51 emulator.
Due some connection issue, the emulator got burnt. Now getting them repaired appears to be difficult. Also understandably, 71M6533 itself is getting obsolete and they are changing the micro in the chip from the earlier 8051 core.
Ours being a custom design applications, I want to check if I can migrate to TI about which we are very familiar..We are using MSP430 FR series in many applications.
Hence I am considering to use TI energy metering devices .
I wish to know the following:
#1.The accuracy and repeatability with 71M6533 was very good.Does TI energy meter IC'S match this.
#2. 71M6533,had a good WDT feature in which there was an external pin for enabling the WDT after emulation/fusing the code.
But in MSP 430 application we use external watch dog, because we felt that using watch dog in MSP430 is lacks the feature that is with THE WATCH DOG OF 71M6533 .It appears its watch dog in 71M6533 is an uncluttered stand alone device enhancing the functional reliability..
#3.In TI energy meter IC is the battery backed RAM power supply& system power supply same or different .The battery input in 71M6533 backs only the 7 bytes RAM&RTC.This scheme is better for battery life, because if the power supply pin is same for all, that is, RTC,RAM&CPU, then on each POWER DOWN, for a while till the chip gets into LPM 4 mode there is a considerable drain on the battery for a while.
#4.Does TI have a GALVANICALLY ISOLATED FET for emulation. Can TI's MSP-ISO be placed in between FET&COMPUTER USB port so that mistakes like what happened with us today while using the ADM51 can be avoided.
