MSP430F6736A: LCDB6 errata

Part Number: MSP430F6736A

Hi,

My customer is observing an issue in one of their running products on the MSP430F6736A whereby there is no display on their LCD. This happens intermittently and the symptoms may go away when the system is reset. Customer is suspecting this is due to the LCDB6 on the errata.

1) How does LCDB6 manifest itself? How can customer know if their observation is due to this errata?

2) Is there any plan to resolve this errata totally in the future?

BR,

Dunman

  • Hi Dunman,

    1) LCDB6 could be the cause of an LCD behaving unexpectedly if the VLCDx and/or LCDCPEN bits in LCDCVCTL register are modified while LCDON = '1'. The customer can determine if the their observation is due to the errata if the identified bits are being modified in their SW while LCDON = '1'

    2) There is no plans to fix the issue in silicon since there is a viable SW workaround identified.

Is the product functional for a long period of time before experiencing this LCD display issue? Is it happening on every product or is it just a select few?

    Best regards,

    Matt

  • Matt,

These are captured on the production line and the symptoms happen intermittently. The symptoms can appear and disappear on the same unit with power cycling. The symptoms are appearing on a significant number of samples and the LCD option is only recently added to the product.

  • Dunman,

Has the customer made certain that the errata workaround is being addressed? i.e. Confirmed that VLCDx and/or LCDCPEN bits in the LCDCVCTL register are NOT being modified while LCDON = '1'?

    Best regards,

    Matt

  • Hello,

I have not heard back regarding this issue in over a week so I am going to assume the issue was resolved. If this was not the case please go ahead and comment back with more information regarding the current status.

    Best regards,

    Matt
