MSP430F1491: MSP430F149

Part Number: MSP430F1491
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F149,

What is the difference between  MSP430F149 and  MSP430F1491 ?

  • Hi Robert,

    The F1491 has no ADC.

    Best regards

    Lukas

  • Hi Lukas,

this is not a true. It has ADC.

We have used the F1491 by mistake with application used ADC. It works.

Why TI does not show this ?

  • Hi Robert,

What do you mean that it works? You can get a right value of a voltage?

I advice you not to make MSP430 works beyond the datasheet.

    Eason

  • Hi Eason,

yes we can get the right value of voltage. So we are sure the MSP430F1491 though has ADC.

The problem is very important for us, because we received by mistake form our supplier 500 pcs of the F1491 and implemented them in our modules instead of the F149.

Also the final products are already sold to the customer. We don't know what to do in this case.

So the question is: what is wrong with ADC in the F1491 if TI advised in their documentation that this IC has no ADC ?

Can you explain and advise pleas.

    Robert.

  • Hi Robert,

Let me involve the quality team for this case.

    You will be contacted soon.

    Best regards

    Lukas

  • Hi Robert,

the MSP430F1491 is in the family of MSP430F149 devices and may share similar hardware. However, the specification for both part numbers are different and the ADC is not part of the MSP430F1491 specification. We do recommend to use the device within datasheet described functions and parameters only.

Texas Instruments warrants that the product performs to the device specification. You may consult the Texas Instruments disclaimer in the respective datasheet and the TI Terms of sale at www.ti.com/.../terms-of-sale.html.

    Regards Uwe

  • Hi Uwe,

    1. We know from available specifications that MSP430F1491 does not specify an ADC.

    2. Take notice, we've  used MPS430F1491 instead of MSP430F149 by mistake and we would like to know what this threatens during operation.

    3. Please explain: whether the ADC in MSP430F1491 has worse parameters (linearity, accuracy, etc.), or whether its use is associated with other effects, e.g. processor freezing, periodic lack of communication with the ADC or other unforeseen behavior.

    Regards,

    Robert.

  • Hi Robert,

thank you for your reply. I am sorry that our answer was not fully satisfactory. However, there is no other technical addition to what was said already.

As the ADC for the MSP430F1491 is not part of the device specification, the device specification can not be extended by the parameters you are looking for. If you need to have those parameter specified, I would kindly refer you to the MSP430F149.

I hope you can understand this position.

    Thank You, Uwe
