MSP430FR5989: LPM3 consumption details

Part Number: MSP430FR5989

Hi champs,

I have few questions about MSP430FR5989 power consumption numbers specified in the datasheet (SLAS789D –JUNE 2014–REVISED AUGUST 2018)

Q1/ Refering to the “5.11 Typical Characteristics, Current Consumption per Module” chapter,

could you confirm the following calculation of the Timer A power consumption in LPM3 :

Timer_A current = 3uA/MHz * 32.768 KHz = 0.0983uA

Q2/ Refering to “5.7 Low-Power Mode (LPM2, LPM3, LPM4) Supply Currents (Into VCC) Excluding External Current”,

When taking 0.7uA as LPM3 power consumption does this 0.7uA consumption include :

. 0.17µA typical consumption of SVS module (Table 5-2. SVS)?

. 185nA (for C=9pF) consumption of oscillator (Table 5-4. Low-Frequency Crystal Oscillator, LFXT)?

Thank you

Best regards,

Guillaume

  • Hello Guillaume,

Q1: Yes, that is the correct calculation for the typical TimerA pheripheral current.  This will be additional to the main MCU current defined in Table 5.7

Q2: I'm not sure exactly where you are asking, but it looks like SVS is excluded/disabled but that the LFXT with 32kHz crystal is included.

    Thanks,

    JD
