MSP-EXP430FR5994: Interface to PC for Data Capture

Part Number: MSP-EXP430FR5994
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB3410, BOOSTXL-AUDIO
Can we transfer samples from this device to computer? Sampling rate is 8000 samples /sec.
Can we transfer using USB? That will be very helpful.
  • Hi,

Do you mean that you need transfer data to PC through UART? And what is the sampling rate for?

    Best regards,

    Cash Hao

  • Hi Basavaraj,

FR5994 does not have a dedicated USB module but you can use the UART to transfer data to the PC using RS232 interface via a simple hyperterminal.

If you do have a RS232 on you PC but only USB there alternative solutions. One is to use the TUSB3410 to implement a UART to USB bridge to you PC and you a virtual com port on your PC hyperterminal. Some more information can be found below.

You also can select another MSP device like F6638 or F5529 which comes with USB module implemented.

  • Hi Walther,

Thank you for the reply and details.

But the part I am referring to is MSP-EXP430FR5994 the Launchpad development platform, I am going to use along with

BOOSTXL-AUDIO Audio BoosterPack™ Plug-in Module, And I  Need to take the Microphone samples directly to PC during development, debug phase .

Hence the sampling rate is mentioned. Is there a way to take it to PC , samples from microphone as we already have USB interface through eZ-FET hardware section on board  MSP-EXP430FR5994 Launch pad.

Hope I am bit more clear now.

    Kind regards

    Basavaraj B M

  • Hi Basavaraj,

thanks for additional informaiton so the JTAG interface is reserved for debug only but please use the backchannel UART implemented on the Launchpad.

Find  more details in the user guide of the launchpad under chapter 2.2.4

  • Hi Walther,

Thank you for the details. Will check it out once the launchpad board in our hand, as it is still in transit and expected any moment.

Hopefully back channel UART should suffice , with 8K sampling rate.

    kind regards

    Basavaraj B M
