Hi Team,

A customer has MSP-TS430RGC64USB and would like to know if he can program the MSP430F5528iRGC thru USB or he needs a JTAG programmer.

Regards,

Danilo

  • Hi Danilo,

all MSP430 with USB on chip support FW update through USB BSL. Pressing the reset button on the target board invokes the USB BSL on the MSP430. Using a PC based GUI, like the BSL Scripter would enable the customer downloading a compiled image of the code he would like to program into the MSP430.

But of course the customer will not have any debug capabilities after programming, without using a debug tool, being able to access the MSP430 through the debug interface.

    BSL Scripter  https://software-dl.ti.com/msp430/msp430_public_sw/mcu/msp430/MSPBSL_Scripter/latest/index_FDS.html

Also this tool https://www.ti.com/tool/MSP430USBDEVPACK the tool called: BSL_USB_GUI.exe under this package

He needs of course to use an IDE to create the respective image.

    Best regards

    Peter
