MSP430F6779: Questions on the MSP430 Emeter Calibration Control Software

Part Number: MSP430F6779

Hi MSP430 team,

My customer is working on the development of this IC. They are currently using the MSP430 E-Meter Calibration Control software (pics attached) and are looking for some guidance or user guides on how to use it. I was able to find this:

But it doesn't appear to be the same thing. Is this version of software they are currently using pretty old? Where can they find support for the software they are currently using?\

They are also specifically looking for ways to compensate for a voltage drop across a 20ft cable within this software. Would appreciate guidance or some information on how to achieve that as well.

Thank you,
Lauren

  • Hi Lauren,

The images you shared are the legacy GUI. They can use EMDC to calibrate their system, and those instructions can be found in the Calibration section of the EMDC Technology Guide.

  • Hi James,

    What is "EMDC"?

That link looks like the GUI that I originally linked. So are you saying the only way they can get support is if the use the newest version of the software?

    Thanks,
    Lauren

EMDC stands for Energy Measurement Design Center. I know we use a lot of acronyms, but if you're ever not sure about what an acronym means, you could search the forum for that acronym and some sort of discussion or description should show up.

That's correct. You did link to EMDC, but your screenshots showed the legacy GUI. Customers can still use the legacy IAR-based code, but our support will be extremely limited and IAR is not free like CCS. I hope this helps clear things up.

  • Hi James,

Do we still have documentation that supports the legacy GUI? Or not at all? Any chance we can dig that up?

Also for my question regarding how to compensate for line loss, is there a guide or steps for how to do that in the new GUI?

    Thanks
    Lauren

Yes, SLAA577 is available. Keep in mind the legacy library and GUI use IAR which isn't free.

I assume by "line loss" you mean that the applied voltage drops slightly before it gets to the MSP430-based meter and load. Using EMDC, you can enter the pre-line loss value during gain calibration, and the scaling factor is adjusted automatically. For example, if you're applying 120V but the meter and load see 119V, you can enter either 120V to ignore the line loss or 119V to account for it. You can find the calibration process in the EMDC Technology Guide.

    Regards,

    James
