CCS/MSP432P401R: Energy Trace can run a program or I have my MSP432P401R broken?

Part Number: MSP432P401R

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

HI,

Today I was testing how EnergyTrace works  with my devices: MSP432P401R + CC2650MA + Educational MKII and I have some questions:

  1. I have observed that using a simple program as Blink, if I disconnect the Educational MKII, there are -30mA of consumption. Is there any way of have it plugged but programatically disabled or try to reduce its consumption if it is not being used as this case?

  2. After use some times EnergyTrace, I think that my CC2650MA is not working. I have tested BLE examples and no one is working. The program is waiting forever at this instruction: "Semaphore_pend(waitRsp_sem, BIOS_WAIT_FOREVER);". Could you confirm to me that I need a new one module or could be problem of the MSP432P401R?

  3. If I remove all the modules and test the blink with EnergyTrace, now it looks as if not enough power is provided. This is one graphic:

In addition: this is a video observing the same issue but with the educational mkii plugged:

However, if I don't use EnergyTrace, any program (not related to BLE) is working ok. I have installed and uninstalled the CSS 2 times and the same is happening. So, I don't know if Bluetooth module is broken or the MCU or both. Could you help me?

  • Hi David,

Were you trying to upload another image - image.png. It did not come through. Can you please upload that?

  • Yes, sorry. Updated :)

If any of the programs are working ok in a stand-alone mode, the MCU itself should be ok.

is it possible that the current needs of the 3 modules are not being supported by the power source? Is it too high?

It is something strange because during 1 day I used EnergyTrace without problems, but next day (and with no changes) happened that and since then never go back to normality

How are you drawing this conclusion from the graphic you attached? It shows about 14 pulses in 5 seconds. Was it different or higher when you tested it earlier in standalone mode?

Yes, When I tested the graphics was a constant pulse of 60mA more or less (without peaks). It was the first time that I measured energy, but I considered it as "normal" or "correct"

    Thanks,

    David
