MSP430FR5989-EP: Low power mode with the RTC still running

Hi Team,

We have a customer using MSP430FR5989-EP controller for RTC purpose only. He connected all supply pins to 3.3V. The microcontroller is consuming around 200uA. How can he set the device to low power mode with the RTC still running?

Hi Danilo, on board, please confirm all IO port is unused and no connected. on test code, please use msp430fr69xx_lpm3-5_01.c on MSP430FR5x8x, MSP430FR692x, MSP430FR6x7x, MSP430FR6x8x Code Examples (Rev. I). Thanks!

Hi Xiaodong,

Thank you for sharing the source code. A follow question from the customer is how to check whether the device is operating in active mode, sleep mode or low power mode. Aside from measuring the current consumption of the device, is there other way to check if the device is running in low power mode?

In active mode, CPU is run. toggle LED by software to indicate MCU is in active mode.

In LPM0 mode, CPU is off. both SMCLK and ACLK keep ON. we can consider checking both SMCLK (ON) and ACLK (ON) output from GPIO to check if it is LPM0 mode

In LPM3 mode, CPU is off. ACLK is ON but SMCLK is OFF. we can consider checking both SMCLK (OFF) and ACLK (ON) output from GPIO to check if it is LPM3 mode

In LPM3.5 mode, we can consider check SYSRSTIV == SYSRSTIV_LPM5WU after device wakeup from LPM3.5 (RESET). or check SMCLK (OFF) and ACLK (OFF)
