MSP430F2617: MSP430F2617TPM and MSP430F2617TZQW - Reading hardware revision information using the CPU

Hello,

I have a question regarding accessing hardware revision information from the MSP430F2617 devices.

I need to detect via uC software that the application is running on either the MSP430F2617TPM (64-PIN LQFP) or the MSP430F2617TZQW (113-PIN BGA)

Therefore if the uC software detects the BGA device then we can use PORTS 7 and 8.

Some of the MSP430 devices contain Hardware revision information stored in the Tag-Length Value (TLV) structures. For example the MSP430FR6922 contains Hardware revision and Die Record information.

Is there someway (other than using an external pull-up/pull-down resistor) to detect the MSP430F2617TPM and MSP430F2617TZQW devices using uC software ?

Is there Hardware revision information available to the CPU for both of these devices ?

Hi,

I find there is not much TLV information for F2617, use F5529 as an example, it only has information about die. I think the information exist before the die is packaged. From my point view, you can't get the package by reading TLV information.

So if we cannot get the package by reading the TLV information, what other methods do you suggest we can use to determine the device package.

My advice is that you make a mark in a certain place to show the package information.

So does that mean there is no way using uC software (i.e. reading a register somewhere) to determine the device package for the MSP430F2617 devices ?

Hi Brendan,

Yes, I have double checked with other colleague. We only make a mark on the part number of MSP430, which is print on the chip.

Sorry, you need to do it by yourslef.

We will use an external pull-up/pull-down configuration to determine the type of package.
