Hi, 

I was reading a tech note (SLAA795) and it mentioned that the MSP430 can be used as a Quadrature Encoder Position Counter.  Can MSP430FR2111 be used to replace a motor controller application with HCTL-2022 + MC9S12C32CFAE16? This can simplify their solution a bit.  The motor controller is then used to control a DC motor driver (LMD18245).

    Hi Kelvin,

    Usually encoders need 1-2 pins for data/clock or two signals, and the LMD18245 calls for a brake and direction pin (2 pins). The MSP430FR2111 can suffice as a replacement as long as the decoder state machines / motor control logic fits in program memory.
