DK-TM4C123G: Why is the DK-TM4C123G Obsolete?

Part Number: DK-TM4C123G

Does anyone know why TI disgnated the DK-TM4C123G obsolete? I think it is a great development kit. One of the best for CAN development. Is there a newer kit in the TM4C123G series for CAN development?

Thanks,

Dave

  • "That's" a "good get" - at first we thought you to be "bit Krazed/mistaken."

    Staff has searched - found:

    • 0    in stock @ Digikey  (none on order) declared "obsolete"
    • 18 in stock @ Mouser  (none on order) declared "EOL"
    • our firm has ~ 25 pcs "in stock" - but must check w/our client base - to see if (some) may be released

As to the "justification" for this (unwanted) declaration - my (outsider's) guess:  "Issues w/the OLED Display" - which is suspected as the component - "most difficult" to procure.

Note that this "EOL" board was NOT "inexpensive" - and that a "vendor replacement" - or even (resourceful) 3rd party board - (may) "be in the works."     (Like the good Sergeant - "I know nothing!")

  • Hello Dave and cb1,

The DK-TM4C123G board is an unfortunate case for us. We very much liked it as well. For the sake of transparency, a variety of reasons including one part being EOL'd, as cb1 theorized, as well as the overall low volumes the kit was bought at made it impossible for us to continue building the boards in the current market.

Right now we do not have plans to build a new CAN kit for the TM4C123G, and the expectation is the EK-TM4C123GXL will be used for all device evaluation including for CAN. However, we will assess over time if the EK-TM4C123GXL is not a sufficient replacement for evaluation of CAN applications, and your feedback on the matter is appreciated.
  • Hi Dave,
Few weeks back I was in contact with our vendor to manufacture some more of the DK-TM4C123 EVM board. I don't know the lead time to have them in inventory. I do know that It will be in low volume as the demand for it is low. Everything Ralph said is still true. TI may obsolete this board in the future. We encourage people to use the EK-TM4C123 board for development.
  • Ola Charles,

Should this board be, "Re-Ignited" (as you perhaps suggest) - may I note that the two (major) "Hobby Distys" - simply "HATE" to "Re-Animate" a "dead-buried"  SKU!    (Stock Keeping Unit)

The (relatively) high price  (of  the deceased) ... (may) operate in your favor - yet I'd  "Not bet (the whole farm!")    (that the "exercised Distys" -  would willingly - re-stock!)

Potential users should "First Check" - perhaps ONLY check - the "Vendor Store"  - for  (potential) availability.
