When you say "file functions" do you mean functions in <stdio.h> such as fopen() for file I/O?
By default, the file I/O functions in <stdio.h> use the CIO protocol which stops the device at a breakpoint, and the CCS debugger via JTAG performs the file I/O before the device is resumed.
