Hi,
In a PCB of our design we use TM4C1294 microcontroller and the Ethernet socket with an integrated transformer. It seems like this socket (Hanrun HR91105) doesn't have ESD protection diodes, as I didn't find it mentioned at any point in its datasheet. I have following questions:
1. Are ESD diodes obligatory in this case, that is if the Ethernet socket has a built-in transformer?
2. Can ESD diodes be placed directly next to TM4C pins (Ethernet port -> transformer -> ESD -> PHY TM4C1294 pins)?
In our case we can't separate an Ethernet socket and a transformer, (as it simply won't fit on a PCB), as on a TM4C1294 Launchpad. In advance, thank you for your support.
