DRV2604: LRA open-loop mode

Guru 29690 points
Part Number: DRV2604

Hi Team,

My customer is using DRV2604L with LRA open-loop mode.
He also uses internal RAM for waveform storage and it is triggered through a hardware trigger pin (IN/TRIG).
LRA frequency is set with OL_LRA_PERIOD[6:0] in this case.

I believe DRV2604 can't be applicable under the condition above because DRV2604 doesn't have OL_LRA_PERIOD[6:0] (register 0x20).
Is my understanding correct?

The background of the question is DRV2604L has a delivery issue now so we need to consider if DRV2604L can be replaced to DRV2604.

Yaita

  • Hi Yaita-san,

DRV2604 and DRV2604L have difference in operation in open-loop mode. Closed loop is similar on both.
As you mentioned, OL_LRA_PERIOD is not available in DRV2604 as it is for DRV2604L.

Perhaps the device configuration can be changed to closed-loop? Haptic Control Console and EVM can be used to evaluate the differences between these two devices.

  • Hi Ivan-san,

My customer is evaluating DRV2604 and wants to get the same waveform with DRV2604L's open-loop mode however he hasn't achieved it yet.
He just changed the mode from open-loop mode to closed-loop mode however the waveform is different.

Do you have an idea to achieve it?
Your support would be really appreciated.

    Yaita

  • Hello Yaita-san,

I would expect some slight difference in closed loop mode due to the automatic resonance tracking, auto overdrive, and the auto braking. That in mind, there are a couple things to keep in mind when trying to get similar performance. The start of the signal needs to be overdriven for the proper amount of time. Braking can be tougher to get correct without the auto-resonance due to small frequency variations in an actuator but can still be implemented.

Can you share some waveform captures of both modes so we can see the difference and what needs to be achieved?
