DRV8846EVM: Does the GUI algorithm also changes the duty cycle while selecting a speed, if needed?

Part Number: DRV8846EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8846

Hello,
I wish to find an optimlal combination of duty cycle, frequency, and voltage that would give the motor a very high speed.
I wish to get\control the duty cycle value of the PWM signal, but there isn't such parameter to select on the GUI.
Does the GUI app algorithm also changes the duty cycle while selecting a speed, if needed?
Is there a way to control the duty cycle while still using the GUI? (maybe indirectly?)

Thank you,
Adi

  • Hi Adi,

Thank you for posting to the forum. Today is a holiday here in the US so I will get back to you by tomorrow.

  • Adi,

I am a bit confused as the DRV8846 is a stepper motor device with a STEP/DIR input.  Speed is controlled by issuing STEPS to the STEP input and there is a field to control the starting speed (Pulses per second), target speed, and stopping speed.

A brushed DC motor is controlled with duty cycle to increase/decrease speed.  For an integrated stepper like DRV8846, it is done as mentioned above.

    Regards,
