DRV8434SEVM: DRV8434SEVM

Part Number: DRV8434SEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8434S

Hi,

While installing GUI, mentioned in section 4.1 of this PDF : https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slou550/slou550.pdf?ts=1622722611416&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.ti.com%252Fproduct%252FDRV8434S

I am facing problem while connecting the EVAL module with PC. DRV8434S GUI is installed but when I try to connect the EVAL module with PC its says no port detected. Most probably the driver is not installed, and during installation it didnt give the pop up screen mentioned in section 4.1 for driver installation. Can you please provide the driver setup file so that I can install now afterwards completing the GUI installation??

I look forward to hear from you soon. Thank you.

BR,

Hassan

  • In screenshot, installed GUI can be seen, Hardware is not connected because it cant detect the connection via USB due to missing USB driver most probably. If there can be some other problem, kindly guide and suggest how to fix it.

  • Hi, Muhammad,

The pop message shows "Not enough USB ports detected."

Can you remove all USB cable from your computer and re-plug in the usb cable between the EVM and computer?

If it still doesn't work, would you close the GUI and re-run it?

    Regards,

    Wang

  • Dear Wang,

I have tried multiple times to re-plug the usb cable between EVM and laptop, while there was no other usb port connected to any other device, but still no success. Restarted the laptop also to re-run the GUI but still not working the connection between EVM and laptop. I believe the USB driver is missing due to which it cant detect EVM via USB. Or if any other potential problem you think it is, please guide at your earliest. I look forward to hear from you in order to solve this issue. Thank you.

I have installed the DRV8434S-0.1.11.setup-win_8.0.0 executable application file from this ZIP folder attached. It then asks for to install GUI run composer from file or download from web, i tried with both options but result is same at the end that GUI is not able to detect the EVM with laptop via USB. I tried with my other laptop also and result is same that GUI is not able to detect the EVM via USB connection. Is it possibile that EVM you send us is damaged or some funtionality inside is damaged? Currently only GREEN LED is blinking on EVM board.

Kindly provide the feedback thank you.

    BR,
    Hassan

  • During installation, it downloads the GUI runtime composer from web or the other option is we download ourselves first and then we select the option to install from file. I did both, it didnt work.
Then i googled the GUI composer runtime and downloaded myself this file manually from here: https://software-dl.ti.com/ccs/esd/documents/gc_downloads_v1runtime.html

After installing this GUI composer runtime v1 now I am able to connect the EVM with laptop and GUI can control the motor.

kindly include necessary information in your installation PDF if missing. Thank you.

  • Hi Muhammad,

Wang is out of the office today and tomorrow. He will get back to you by 6/9. Thanks you in advance for your patience.

  • Hello, Hassan,

Thank you for your finding. I have passed this message to the GUI developer. After he confirms the GUI runtime version issue, I will update the installation PDF file or GUI executable file.

    Thanks,

    Wang

  • Hello, Hassan,

The GUI developer verified the GUI and GUI runtime:

    • When DRV8434S EVM GUI v0.1.11 and v0.1.12 installed using GC-Runtime.v8, I could not find any issues from my side. Everything works properly.
    • When DRV8434S EVM GUI v0.1.11 and v0.1.12 installed using GC-Runtime.v7 also, GUI works normally except one popup-message.
    • When I installed GC-Runtime V1 after downloading from the link(https://software-dl.ti.com/ccs/esd/documents/gc_downloads_v1runtime.html), the default path of installation is "C:\ti", not same as  the GC-Runtime V8 and V7's path "C:\Users\x1050169\guicomposer\runtime". I am not sure, whether path of installation makes the difference.
    • I was unable to install DRV8434S EVM GUI v0.1.11(or any GUI) using GC-Runtime V1 which is downloaded from link(https://software-dl.ti.com/ccs/esd/documents/gc_downloads_v1runtime.html

Overall from my side, DRV8434S EVM GUI v0.1.11 and v0.1.12 showed no issues when installed using proper GC-runtime engine(i.e., V8).

Sorry, we cannot duplicate the issue with several window 10 computers. I will send you update if we can duplicate it later.

    Regards,

    Wang Li
