DRV8870: Torque and current

Hi Team,

Customer would like to know can the DRV8870 achieve high torque and high current when it is started, and low torque and low current during operation? Is there any way to achieve this using this chip? There is a current limiting resistor, which limits the current.

    Annie,

    Yes, the VREF pin can be adjusted to achieve different current levels.  However, it should be noted that DC motors all have a high startup current that can be limited using VREF and external sense resistor (equation in datasheet).  Once motor starts, it is typically not necessary to limit the current.  

    So, VREF and external sense resistor are chosen just to limit the startup current.
