Does DRV8300 get a thermal protection/shutdown when the die goes to a certain temperature? What's the protection temperature?

    Hi Will,

    There is no thermal protection/shutdown for this device. As written in the caption under section 7.1 (Page 6) of the datasheet: When the temperature of the device exceeds the recommended operating temperature ranges (Found in table 7.3) for an extended period of time, you can expect permanent damage to the device. As long as the device stays within the bounds of the ambient and junction temperatures listed while the device is running, you can expect it to function properly.

    If thermal shutdown is required, I would recommend looking at other gate drivers in the brushless-DC portfolio. For example the DRV8350 does include thermal shut down.
