DRV10983-Q1: can we estimate the motor torque from the register set of the device?

Part Number: DRV10983-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV10983,

Can we estimate the motor torque at a giving operating point from reading the register set of the DRV10983?

Thank you!

  • Hi Lenio,

    Unfortunately, DRV10983-Q1 does not have a dedicated register to read back motor torque. Torque can be estimated using the below equation.

    Torque = 1.5 × pole pairs × rotor flux (Wb) × phase current (A)

    DRV10983-Q1 does not have a register for pol pairs. But phase current and rotor flux/BEMF constant can be read back from the device. This equation holds good only when the BEMF voltage is aligned with the phase current. If there is any phase difference between these two, then the actual torque will be lesser than the estimated torque.

    Regards,
