DRV8305-Q1: Current sense amplifier output connection to C2000 MCU

Part Number: DRV8305-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F280040C-Q1, DRV8305,

With the TI MCU TMS320F280040C-Q1 we have a problem of the 3.3V supply ADC.

The DRV8305 current amplifiers reference is set to 3.3V via VREF but the amplifiers are powered via AVDD and therefore the outputs can go up to 5V and damage the MCU ADC inputs in high current peak situations.

In the evaluation kit DRV8305-Q1EVM, the outputs are connected directly to the 3.3V inputs without protection. According the datasheet the outputs can provide up to 20mA.

Do you have suggestions and a solution? E.g. schottky diode to 3.3V, or have I missed anything?
