MCT8316Z: Can I use FGOUT pin to measure the RPM of motor?

Part Number: MCT8316Z

Hello TI experts,

my customer now tests MCT8316Z for their products, and they have a question.

1. they want to measure the RPM of motor. Can I use FGOUT pin for this purpose?

2. if I can use FGOUT, how many FGOUT pulses go when the motor rounds once?

and they use hardware interface now, please consider it when you check the thing above. Thanks.

Best regards,

Chase

  • Hi Chase,

Thank you for the question! For the MCT8316Z the FGOUT pin can be used to measure the RPM of their motor, as long as it has hall sensors. The frequency of the output of the FGOUT pin will be dependent on the frequency of the hall signals switching, which allows the customer to calculate the speed of the motor. For the hardware variant, the number of FGOUT pulses will be 3 pulses per full rotation of the motor (the FGOUT signal changes state either from low to high or high to low every time a change in state of one of the hall signals is detected).

    Regards,
