DRV8908-Q1: Open-Load Detection Condition

Hi team,

Our customer have concern about open-load detection in DRV8908-Q1, when OUT1/OUT2 are Low(for motor brake) and current is very small.

Will it be detected OLD in this situation, even when the motor is actually connected to the driver?

Hi Muwei Zheng,

OLD should be detected by the driver during low current operations. As you see below, the low-current active OLD mode is able to detect OLD faults for small load currents.

Just want to confirm, OLD can be detected when OUT1, OUT2 are both in Low for motor break right?

The Negative current active OLD allows for open load detection during recirculation (high side or low side) when synchronous rectification is enabled. You can read more about the different OLD modes in section 8.3.3.5 of the datasheet.
