DRV8714-Q1: connection to AGND or PGND?

Part Number: DRV8714-Q1

Hi team,

Our customer asked some questions to DRV8714S-Q1. Please answer the following questions.

(1) Customer thinks to connects some of DRV8714S-Q1 pins to GND. DRV8714S-Q1 has some type of GNDs which are AGND, PGND and DGND, so could you tell me which GNDs should these pins connect to?

5pin: IN2/PH1

6pin: IN3/EN2

9pin: DRVOFF/nFLT

10pin: AREF

12pin: SO1

13pin: SO2

14pin: BRAKE

15pin: SP1

32pin: GND

(2) Customer thinks to control 2 DRV8714S-Q1 by 1 MCU. Can customer connect DRVOFF/nFLT and nSLEEP pins like the following configuration?

Regards,

Nishimura

  • Nishimura-san,

According to figure 8-2. Block Diagram for DRV8714S-Q1 RVJ Package, I would think gate driver source and charge pump circuit use DGND; the current regulation circuit uses AGND; the power circuit uses PGND.

    5pin: IN2/PH1: AGND

    6pin: IN3/EN2: AGND

    9pin: DRVOFF/nFLT: AGND

    10pin: AREF: AGND

    12pin: SO1:  AGND

    13pin: SO2: AGND

    14pin: BRAKE: AGND

    15pin: SP1: AGND

32pin: GND. Either ground to have a big ground copper area.

Yes. Customers can connect DRVOFF/nFLT and nSLEEP pins like that configuration. It is good to me.

  • Hi Wang,

Thank you for your response, but sorry you are confused. I mistook the pin name. I need to confirm the RHA package.

Can the SPx, SNx, SOx are connected to PGND or GND?

For Figure 8-3, it seems shunt amplifier block has a different GND mark against GND pin. So, does this means those shunt amplifier pins needs to connect PGNDx not GND?

    Regards,

    Nishimura

  • Nishimura-san,

If the SPx, SNx, SOx are connected to PGND or GND, please make sure there is no high current flowing between those PGND or GND points to AGND.

I would think all package spin devices have a similar ground design. If compare Figure 8-3 with Figure 8-1, -2, I would think Figure 8-1, -2 have more detail. The shunt samplifier components ground can be connected both ground. The rule is when two grounds are connected, please make sure there is no high current flowing between them. And then, the layout should be fine.
