DRV8106S-Q1EVM: The evaluation board is not working

Part Number: DRV8106S-Q1EVM

Hi Team

Our customer bought DRV8106S-Q1EVM then he followed the instructions in the User's Guide. After installing the version 0.5.1, the GUI asked to install the update and when he did the board didn't worked. The GUI recognized the port number as shown in the screenshot below, however, it shows that no EVM is connected. The status LED is blinking and the fault LED is on. Is there an error with the firmware?

Regards,

Danilo

  • Hi Danilo,

I think most likely the latest GUI update is not compatible with the current version of the board firmware. Can you instruct the customer to remove the latest version of the GUI and reinstall the GUI from the software files on ti.com. Tell them to not upgrade the GUI and try to connect the EVM.

Let me know if this works.

  • Hi Pablo,

We had a problem with the evaluation board, (it collapsed), we ordered a new one, tried the 0.4.0 version of the GUI software. but we have the same issue,

    For information,

I open the GUI software, then power the Eval board (Vbat/GND pins with 12V) then connect the USB.

the status led is blinking green while the nFault led is ON red,

I try to connect I have a message that no Hardware is connected,

Reset the Board, the nFault led is off, while the status is blinking, same issue 'no hardware connected'

    Thanks for your help

  • Hi Akli,

I'm sorry to hear that you are still having problems connecting the EVM to the GUI. I checked with my team internally and it seems the EVM was programmed with an early version of the final firmware and tested with a previous version of the GUI.

    Try the following:

    1. Extract and install the GUI executable found in this ZIP folder: slvc785a.zip
    2. After installing and running the GUI, follow the power up procedures documented on the user's guide and connect the EVM to your computer.

This GUI version should work with the firmware on the EVM. Let me know if this does not work.

  • Hi Pablo,

I tested the GUI you sent, and it is working

Thank you for your support, I will perform some tests

  • Hi Akli,

I'm glad it is working now. I will close this thread but feel free to reply if you have any more questions.
