DRV8434S: Suitable for low current driver motor

Part Number: DRV8434S
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8889-Q1,

Hello,

Would like to know if this driver is suitable for low current stepper motor :drived at 200 mA

I have doubt because of :  AOUT and BOUT current matching 2.5 A at 2,5% = 62 mA

Doyou have any recommendations if not ?

Regards,

  • Hello, Tyrion,

Do you pick DRV8434S because of its stall detection function? DRV8889-Q1 maximum full scale current is 1.5A and give a better current accuracy at low output current and less mismatching current.

  • Hello Wang,

I pick it for its protection features + warnings and its stall detection indeed.
Its for a system with multiple stepper motors (around 25) and most of them will be drive at 200 mA, only one or two will be drive at 2A.

The problem is that other drivers included DRV8889-Q1 have poor avability, and i would like to have a first PCB with all on them under 6 months.

  • Hello, Tyrion,

If the stall detection is the "must have" function. The only options are DRV8889-Q1 or DRV8424S.

When we pick 200mA, the tolerance is +/-12%= +/-24mA. So, in the worst case, the difference between A bridge and B bridge is 48mA. For A bridge and B bridge matching, I would think it should be better than 48mA.
