DRV8212: Confusion about Operation Voltage (VM)

Hi there,

I am confused about the operation voltage (VM) of DRV8212. On one side, the datasheet calls out absolute max voltage of 12V. On the other hand, the description of this part is "DRV8212 - NEW - 12-V, 2-A Low voltage H-bridge motor driver", and it is marketed as if 12V is the normal operation voltage. Can anyone please confirm? I am designing for 12V/1.5A low power application.

Hi Dawei,

The 12V is the maximum operating voltage for this device. TI does not guarantee that the driver will work properly beyond this operating voltage. As long as your design does not exceed far beyond 12-V, you may use the DRV8212 for your application. You'll have to ensure you have enough bulk capacitance to damped any sudden voltage spikes on the supply line of the motor driver.

Thank you for your reply Pablo. What you said then is different than datasheet which claims 11V as maximum operating voltage. Does that mean the datasheet would be updated later?
