DRV8353: operating at 100V

Hi all

Our customer wants to implement a BLDC running at 100V.

I assume they cannot use the DRV8353 as they would need some safety margin vs. the max operating voltage of the device.

Is my assumption correct ?

Do you have other suggestions ?

They are looking also at a discrete implementation, e.g. with LMG1210 and INA280, however this will be expensive.

I also suggested the UCC27282 but they have only one PWM-signal to control the driver, therefore the UCC27282 is not compatible with their control interface.

Hello Ueli,

We normally recommend 20% to 100% margin when operating a brushless DC motor. If the motor power is very low and the supply is well regulated, 20% is acceptable. If the motr power is high or the supply is not well regulated, up to 100% margin will be needed.

DRV835x will not be a good choice to operate at 100V, because as soon as the motor starts spinning, you will see voltage spikes exceeding the abs max rating of the IC.
