DRV8320: Reverse polarity protection

Hi,

I currently have a working design with DRV8305 using the recommended circuit for reverse polarity using VCPH pin with external BJT and NMOS.

I'm looking into upgrading this design and move to DRV8320. Does this device support reverse polarity protection?

Hello David,

You can use the DRV8320 charge pump output (VCP) in the same way as DRV8305 VCPH to drive a reverse polarity protection MOSFET.

Hi David,

We talk about the DRV832x family specifically in this app note: https://www.ti.com/lit/slva991 (The MOSFET is used in the opposite orientation in the case of a cut-off switch but the concept is the same).

This app note (http://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/SLVA835) lists several example devices in section 4.1 including DRV8343-Q1. DRV8343-Q1 is effectively an automotive version of DRV8320 and the charge pump is incredibly similar.
