DRV8801: MODE 2 safely pulled to GND when left floating to get same brake mode

Hi Team,

A customer would like to replace DRV8800 with DRV8801 due to supply constraints. For that they need to know whether MODE 2 of DRV8801 is safely pulled to GND when left floating to get same brake mode.

I assume that the DRV8800 outputs are Low when Brake (slow decay) is selected.

Can DRV8801 be used instead of DRV8800 in the following schematic?

After initial skepticism, I would no longer want to rule it out.
- All internal parameters seem to be the same
- VPROPI [14] is VREG for me and not wired.
- MODE2 [5] is not connected for me

Hello Franz,

I am happy to be able to help you out today! Your intuition is correct, mode 2 actually has a pulldown resistor, pulling it to ground when left floating. The DRV8801 should be a good replacement for the DRV8800 and has actually been recommended in the past for the same purpose:
